Hi Cindy,

Yes there are. What you do is go along to a group (or even several groups), meet people, get to know them and take it from there. The groups we know about and/or that are connected with us are listed here

I am open to the idea of home schooling for my three but would need to have a couple of days off to do my own thing. Are their home schoolers out there that support other home schoolers through child swaps so that the home schooler gets a break?

Hi Tanya,
Professionals are often quite sceptical about home education - basically because they know so little about it and view it as isolating. This is based on a misunderstanding of what home education is. I will email you some information.

Regards

Our daughter is almost 15 and so far has hated every bit of her school experience to date .We had considered home schooling in the past but had some worries(we also had not really researched the idea). At home we have always been very creative and given our daughter a lot of freedom to explore and express herself, then we make her go to school and it's almost the opposite to what we're trying to achieve at home. In 09 we were affected by the fires, we lost friends, our community, our home, our lifestyle and more. We have just managed to get into our new home (in another town) and are trying to rebuild our lives. School has been even harder since the fires and we have been to a lot of counselling. We are talking about home schooling again but this time we have been researching it and we are all feeling very positive about the idea. Unfortunately our youth counsellor thinks this is a terrible idea, that our daughter is still fire-affected and needs to overcome her fears by going to school rather than what she sees as withdrawing from society. There seems to be some negative feeling from places like CAMS?

Today is the first day that my family and I are starting the journey of Home Education. Deep down, I've always had the feeling that Home Education is the right decision for us. For the past 11yrs (since my first son started school) I didn't have the courage to stand up for what I believed in. My eldest three sons, have decided that they want to continue on at school. My fourth son is happy to be Home schooled and he says it so proud :) If all goes well, then I will continue on and school my next youngest two children, as well :) I am nervous, excited and quietly freaking out :)

Your article is inpsiring and is exactly what I needed to read today :)

I want to home school at least two of my children the other two are 'happy' as is but I am terrified. I desire change yet run away when I have to sign on the dotted line. You see I'd rather despise myself for never trying and wasting time than to actually jump and maybe fail or feel uncomfortable or have lousy days and fantastic days. Yesterday it was a fantastic meant to be plan but today I am wavering and wafting How could I teach them anything somedays I am an absolute albatross and an ostrich. just leave my butt sticking out and hope that no-one notices me. HELP!!!!!
