AYCE Program in Castlemaine

There is a possibility of the AYCE program starting in Castlemaine for term 4 this year.

For those of you who don’t know, this program was started at Yea High School and has since spread to other areas. It allows students who do not wish to attend school, to complete the usual school curriculum by attending an AYCE centre one day a week and working from home for the remainder of the time. This program has been used successfully by many home ed teens as a route into formal study. In fact you may have noticed in Otherways that a home ed student was Dux of Yea High school last year after through the AYCE program (see page 29 of Feb issue).

You can read more about the AYCE program here  http://www.yeahs.vic.edu.au/home/ayce/

Heather White is looking at starting this successful program in Castlemaine in Term 4 this year. The program would initially cater for five or six Year 7 – 9 students and expand into Year 10 in 2009 with a larger number of students.

Update 25th August 2008

Not enough people were interested to make this viable for term 4 2008. It may run in 2009 if there is sufficient interest.

Hi I would love more information about this program. My year 7 Daughter is having a terrible time at Castlemaine Secondary and we are looking at all of our options for next year.

    Hi Kathleen,
I have forwarded your message to Heather White to check whether there is a possibility of the AYCE programme running in Castlemaine for 2010. I will post an update here when available, Sue
