Chinese / Mandarin Language Lessons for Home-educating Families in Eastern Suburbs, Melbourne

Is your family interested in learning Mandarin (”The most spoken language on the planet!”)? If so, It would be great to hear from you!

We are trying to set up a Chinese language (Mandarin) class for ourselves and any other interested home-educating families. We are in discussion with a not-for-profit organisation, the Creative Chinese Language & Culture Centre, to develop a class that would suit home educators. The CCLCC have been very responsive to our ideas, and their classes sound, like they are well run and fun!

Here are some notes on classes so far (it’s pretty flexible at this stage):
- learn to speak Mandarin and write Chinese characters while doing fun activities such as art, drama, cooking, games
- the Chinese is taught incidentally while the children focus on engaging activities
- follow themes through the class
- teacher is native Mandarin speaker
- parents who are interested in learning with their children are welcome to attend (this might make practicing at home easier)
- this class would be aimed at beginners, however, the CCLCC runs other classes to suit all levels
- this class is aimed at 4/5 years and older children, but we can also set up a toddler Chinese class for younger children (if we had enough toddlers), to run at the same time as the main class
- discounts for siblings

    Hello, Pep,

I am just seeing this notice on 2 September, a few months after you’ve posted it. Has there been any progress/response in relation to your post? I would be interested to know more about these classes, both myself and my 4 year old daughter.

    Many thanks, Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

The principal of the CCLCC is currently organising an information session/class for interested home educators and their families to get a feel for what they’ll be doing and how they’ll be running the classes. The information session will be held sometime in October (date and venue to be confirmed). The classes aim to begin in February next year.

We have several families interested and we are all just waiting for this session. It’s taking them a long time to get this organised for us – hopefully it means that they’re putting together a great programme!

    Thanks for your interest!
    - Pep
