‘Psychologist and former teacher Sally-Anne McCormack said home schooling had its place but children must be socialised in preparation for tertiary studies or the workforce.’
I will be contacting the Psychologist quoted for clarification. I sincerely hope Sally-Anne does not think home schooled children are locked in houses and have no contact with others.
Socialisation is completely overated.
What all of these types of comments (’to have resilience you need to get some help and then return to the system’) fail to address is: many youth who spend their whole childhood in “the system” are very poorly socialised, lack resilience, lack basic living skills, can’t adjust to the workforce and don’t excel in tertiary studies. Funny, they’re probably the same people who wonder why there is so much underage drinking, drugs and violence on our streets. Most of those people came through ‘the system’.
